Tree man who grew roots may be cured - Telegraph
Jan 17, 3:01am    (12 reviews)  bizarre, diseases  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jht...
Incredible story about an Indonesian man, Dede, who has warts (growth tumors) that make him look half man and half tree. I watched this on TLC, it is a very sad but moving story. Dede is very strong and handles his condition very well, with warm smiles. His family is also very caring and supportive.

Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.

The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his hands and feet.

Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus.

Lets hope for a cure and a better living!
Red Meat - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jan 17, 12:39am    (1 review)  health, diseases, meat  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Meat
Red meat in culinary terminology refers to meat which is red-colored when raw, while in nutritional terminology, it refers to meat from mammals.

Recent studies indicate that red meat could pose a notable increase in cancer risk. Some studies have linked consumption of large amounts of red meat with breast cancer, colorectal cancer, stomach cancer, lymphoma, bladder cancer and prostate cancer. Furthermore, there is convincing evidence that consumption of beef, pork, lamb, and goat from domesticated animals is a cause of colorectum cancer. Professor Sheila Bingham of the Dunn Human Nutrition Unit attributes this to the haemoglobin and myoglobin molecules which are found in red meat. She suggests these molecules, when ingested trigger a process called nitrosation in the gut which leads to the formation of carcinogens. Overall, the relative risk of developing a fatal cancer in non meat-eaters is 0.61 compared to people who eat red meat regularly.

Eating cooked red meat may increase the likelihood of cancer because carcinogenic compounds called heterocyclic amines are created during the cooking process. Heterocyclic amines may not explain why red meat is more harmful than other meat, however, as these compounds are also found in poultry and fish, which have not been linked to an increased cancer risk.

Red meat has a high content of saturated fat, which is associated with cardiovascular diseases. One study has determined that the death rate of non meat-eaters due to heart diseases is 0.72 compared to meat eaters.

Consumption of red meat has also been linked to bone loss, type 2 diabetes, hypertension and arthritis.

& Veganism &8212; The Way Towards A Healthier Life

The western world has always advocated the use of meat, fish, poultry, grains, dairy products, fruits and vegetables for a healthy living. But recent studies have shown that this diet actually causes diseases.

More people are turning vegetarian and some are turning into vegans. Veganism is a form vegetarianism where the subjects consciously avoid diary products such as: eggs, milk, butter, etc. Vegans also avoid using fur, leather, wool and cosmetics, where the products are tested on animals.
Comparative anatomy studies of humans and carnivores

If we see the hands of human beings, they are rounded without claws suggesting that human hands are meant for pluck fruits rather than tearing flesh. The incisor teeth are meant for chewing vegetables and the human canine teeth is not well developed. The salivary secretion in humans has salivary amylase, an enzyme that is designed to digest complex vegetarian carbohydrates. The hydrochloric acid secretion from the stomach is less than 10% of that of the carnivores, suggesting that the human body is more designed to absorb and digest vegetarian food. Lastly, the length of the large intestine in carnivores is very short and it is three times longer in humans. This is perhaps one reason, why we are meant to be vegetarian.
Non-vegetarianism is dangerous

The consumption of animal fats and proteins has been linked to heart disease, colon cancers, lung cancers, diabetes, higher cholesterol levels, osteoporosis (brittleness of bones), kidney diseases, blood pressure, obesity and more recently the consumption of beef has lead to the fatal MAD COW DISEASE.
Animal agriculture and the environment

Contrary to popular beliefs, animal agriculture takes a devastating toll on the earth's natural resources because it requires enormous amounts land, water, fertilizes and other resources to feed farm animals. It would be easier on the earth's resources, if we all turned vegetarian.
Animals pay a heavy price for our way of living

All of us have a distorted notion that drinking milk or eating eggs does not kill animals. We seldom realize that the cows and chickens live their short lives caged, drugged, mutilated and deprived of their most basic freedom so that we can drink milk or eat eggs. Many of us are not aware that these animals are cruelly slaughtered when their production rates decline.
The four holistic food groups

A vegetarian diet would be a lot healthier and holistic.

1. Whole grains, which include rice, bread, pasta, corn, cereals, millets, barley are rich in fiber and other complex carbohydrates, proteins, B complex vitamins and trace elements.
2. Vegetables are rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene riboflavin, iron, calcium and fiber.
3. Legumes are all good sources of fiber, protein, iron, calcium, zinc and B vitamins. Soy milk and tofu are excellent sources of vegetable protein.
4. Fruits are rich in fiber, vitamin C and beta-carotene.

The meat industry has contributed to more American deaths than all wars, natural disasters, and all automobile accidents combined.

Adopting a Vegan lifestyle is not easy but it provides abundant benefits to animals' lives, to the environment, and to our own health.

Wow, that's sad and very wrong! We need more veg*an adopters! And kokoluvsallball:
No the vegan diet cannot and did not kill any children, it is neglect and malnutrition that kills. The majority of children who die from that is from poor parenting skills like said below, no money, and misunderstanding of the child's nutritional needs; which more animal eater child or child who weren't getting fed at all, died from this. Another thing, there is plenty of scientific data showing the benefits of *this wacky lifestyle*, which is not wacky at all, if you would do your research like fligaction said!

"My reasons for being a vegetarian are not quite the usual ones.- To me it is as appetizing as a dead and mutilated baby."
This article mentions real good reasons for going vegetarian, about how it effects the environment and such. Although this does mention- We are designed just barely well enough to eat meat without getting ill. That could not be further from the truth, it has been directly proven that the consumption of animal products causes people to be ill.

The ice cream project!
That's right, you're not seeing things - VEGAN ice cream! A common misconception about keeping a vegan diet is that you have you to totally give up all your old favorite and sinful foods. While being a vegan does mean that your diet is more focused on vegetables, fruits, and whole grains it certainly doesn't require that you sit at home eating nothing but broccoli! There are many yummy vegan desserts out there to satisfy your sweet tooth. More vegan ice cream brands and flavors
